Why should I buy software?

Computers are now an increasing part in our lives. This is also true in the world of homeopathy. Homeopathic software programs have become much more sophisticated and give us access to much of the current thinking and new strategies available. For example, in Isis you can use filters : this means you can isolate groups of remedies to work with when repertorising, i.e. Animal source remedies, the Kali family or a specified row or column on the Periodic table. You can also use Sankaran’s ‘Insights’ : a feature on Isis that allows you to cross the sensation of a family of remedies with a state or miasm (as well as many others). Even if you don’t want to use these advanced ways of working right now you may grow into them later.

As a student there is no greater learning tool than a computerised system (please click here to read ‘Using Isis as a learning tool’) and let’s not forget that you never stop learning about homeopathy. Whether it’s a new strategy or a new remedy there is always a wealth of new information available. Having a computerised system allows you to manage information in the most effective way.

For the busy (or even semi busy practitioner) a computerised system of repertorisation will help save a lot of time and also offer many more remedies to evaluate. I have heard practitioners say “I repertorise by hand” but I just can’t imagine any busy practitioner sitting down and ticking boxes for every case. I think what they mean is, they flick through the repertory and validate that a remedy they have in mind is in the relevant rubrics for the case in question. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you are in danger of only prescribing remedies you know well.

Here is an example of what I am taking about. Imagine you have a patient come to see you and you decide the following symptoms are what you are going to base your choice of remedy on:

  1. Mind – Forsaken feeling
  2. Mind – Irresolution
  3. Mind – Mood changeable, variable
  4. Stomach – Thirstlessness
  5. Stomach/Generalities – Aversion to fat and rich foods

What remedy would you think of in this case? I would immediately think of Pulsatilla, Do any other remedies come to mind? I have asked many people this question and only a few could answer and they were all wrong!

Would it surprise you to find out that 19 other remedies cover all 5 rubrics? Here’s the problem: If you don’t know all the 20 remedies well, and are a busy practitioner, you may be tempted to give Pulsatilla. Click here to see the repertorisation of these symptoms from the Complete Millennium repertory.

There is a lot of skill involved in taking a case and deciding ‘what needs to be cured’. However when it comes to searching for rubrics, repertorising and then researching materia medica, why not use a computer to do the donkey work!

I am sure there are still those who think that using a computer detracts from the ‘art’ of homeopathy. I think the converse is true. Using a computer means you can be more thorough in less time, which means you will be more successful, both in results and financial reward. Your practice is a business and a software package is one of the tools of the trade.

Why choose Isis?

I have been selling computer software since 1997 and can tell you without any hesitation that the number one concern of most people buying software is if they can use it effectively with ease.

Isis was written with this in mind. Isis is very easy to use, in fact many people have called it ‘intuitive’ Don’t misunderstand me : there is a learning curve in using anything new, but you can’t get any easier than Isis. Isis is an integrated program, this means that the repertories and materia medicas are all in one system. You never leave the main screen of Isis. There are four tabs (repertory, materia medica, Rx database and dictionary) and by pressing them the central screen changes to the relevant page. Other than this there are just three other main sections of the program to learn: searching materia medica and repertories, repertorisation and comparing and contrasting remedies. Our aim has always been to make software for practical every day use. However please don’t be misled by the simplicity of Isis. It has some wonderful advanced features on it and I am sure when you see it, that you’ll agree it is very visually appealing.

If you haven’t already done so, why not register yourself to receive more information on Isis, which will show you some of the great features available as well as screen shots, so you can see how attractive it is.

Simply click here to register and choose the option ‘More information required’ or click here to see what people are saying about Isis.

Why buy Isis as a student?

You won’t get a better learning tool than Isis (please click here to read ‘Using Isis as a learning tool’). Other reasons for buying Isis as a student are as follows:

  • You will avoid duplication. Students who buy Isis later in their training realise that Isis provides many of the books they have bought in hard copy form
  • You can use Isis for college assignments.
  • You can add your own data into materia medica and Rx database, and also create your own rubrics and themes. In other words you can start to build your own database of information that is searchable (your notes are much more valuable this way)
  • You will be very comfortable with Isis by the time you go into practice (one less challenge)

What user support will I get?

Isis is very easy to use, in fact I have heard many people call it ‘intuitive’. Isis comes with a four aids to help you get to understand how to use it:

  • Visual/audio tutorials, let David Wikto the designer of the program, show you how it works
  • Manual (in hard copy format) that also has tutorials in it
  • On-screen wizard, which takes you around the various features of Isis
  • Help menu

We also run FREE training workshops around the UK and in Ireland. We will gladly run FREE tele-conference style workshops if a group of 6 or more customers approach us. You also have access to the Miccant representative that sold you the program and me (Colin Hart).

What technical support will I get?

Miccant provide FREE on-going technical support to all customers

Why have books in electronic form?

The advantages of having books in electronic form are two fold. Firstly if you have a lap-top and are mobile, you can now carry your entire library of books with you at no extra weight : imagine what you will save on osteopathic bills! Secondly and probably more importantly, you can search all books on Isis. Many homeopathic books are reference books.

A while back I was writing an article and wanted to reference Hahnemann talking about ‘Obstacles to cure’. I knew this was in the Organon, but couldn’t remember where. I spent 20 minutes flicking through the Organon but couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I went to my system and typed in ‘Obstacles to cure’ and within a couple of seconds the reference was found! If you are carrying out research, teaching or simple can’t find what you are looking for in the repertory, you now have another source of references at your disposal. The more books you have on the system the more results you will end up with.

Remember that homeopathy is a lifetime of learning, so if you are just starting out or are well established there is always more to learn!

Is there a charge for upgrades?

There are two types of upgrades. Enhancements to Isis or additional information to be added to the repertories, collections and libraries. If the enhancement hasn’t taken lots of time and money to complete or we get free information, then our policy is to give this away for FREE. On the other hand if there has been lots of development time and money or we have to pay authors royalties on books, then there will be a charge incurred. We have a policy to give FREE provings on an ongoing basis.

Can I add to my initial purchase?

Yes, you can add optional additions anytime in the future. Optional books come in either libraries (a variety of authors work) or collections (one authors work), click here for information on Packs, Reps & Libraries.

How can I buy Isis?

We accept credit/debit cards (excluding American Express & Diners club) and cheques. Customers purchasing outside the UK can pay by credit card or banker’s draft (in Sterling)

We offer a 14 day money back guarantee for complete peace of mind

How is Isis different to Cara?

A frequent asked question is “how is Isis better than Cara”. Cara is a great system, but along with Macrep and Radar it was originally written several years ago. A lot has happened in the technological world during this time. We developed Isis with a view to utilising some of the new technology now available.

Below is a list of features/functions that are available in Isis and not in Cara Professional as well as some improvements made to existing features/functions in Cara Professional

  • Streamlined, ease of use (repertories, materia medicas, remedies and dictionary all on 1 screen)

  • On screen wizard makes the program more user friendly

  • On screen information about remedies, what family/groups they belong to and other members of the same families and groups

  • Direct Internet connection (download updates automatically!)

  • Use of latest technology (supports video, web links and more). You can attach photographs to rubrics and put a photograph of your patient in the ‘case visit’ section

  • Huge library of books available (355 volumes of books in Isis with the full library)
